SWIMMING AND SPRINGING

Swimming

Competitive swimming

During the week, the swimmers compete  in a 50 meter pool, which is the same length as an Olympic pool with Lifeguard certificate. Back in 2022, the swimming pool in  Sports Center was expanded by seven millimeters so that it complies with all official pool measurements.

In order to perform at your best in swimming, you must both master your start, your underwater work and the swimming itself, which can either be butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke, freestyle (also known as crawl) or medley (a combination of the four styles mentioned). The longest  distance is 1500 meters, while the shortest is 50 meters.

Open water

The  provides water for the championships in open water swimming, which take place during the  week. Centrally located next to the  Bridge, the country's best open water swimmers compete against each other when the winners for ladies and gentlemen are to be found over the five kilometer distance.

Note! Everyone can try their hand at the route. However, it requires that you can cover the five kilometers in 1 hour and 40 minutes, which is equivalent to swimming a kilometer in 20 minutes. In addition, you must be a member of one of the Swimming Union's member clubs.

High Diving

High diving is a sport that is closely related to diving as it is known from the Olympics, but where you jump from significantly higher heights, land on your feet instead of your head and try to do as many somersaults and flips as possible on your way to the water.

The sport makes extreme demands on both technique, physique and mentality, and it is only the world's most skilled elite who compete at the WC heights of 20 meters (women) and 27 meters (men). It is inappropriate to challenge the elite heights before you have a lot of jumping experience with High Diving, and therefore at the there will be jumping from more than one height, to enable the participation of athletes of different levels. All heights compete against all, and those who jump from higher heights get slightly more points as long as the execution is included.

That swimmers shave their entire bodies

Many swimmers shave their entire bodies to increase their performance in the water. The simple explanation is that it reduces water resistance.

More importantly, studies have shown that shaved skin is more sensitive to the water and its pressure, allowing swimmers to make small technical adjustments where necessary.

That bow tie is the latest style

The newest swimming style is butterfly, which entered the Olympic program in 1956 as an independent style. Butterfly evolved from breaststroke when swimmers began to bring their arms forward above the water to avoid water resistance. All finalists at the 1952 Helsinki Olympics swam 'upper arm breaststroke'.

That swimmers sweat in the water

Because swimming is a sport where a lot of energy is consumed, a swimmer sweats a corresponding amount while the athlete is swimming with Universal certificate. But because the swimmers are submerged in water, it is not something you particularly notice.
